An Example of God’s Love on Valentine’s Day

One of the things to appreciate at BGU is the hearts of the men in our community: the humble, caring, and brotherly hearts that yearn to seek after Christ’s own. Having walked in the world outside of Christ for years, I held a warped and negative view of men. Through the men at BGU however, God has shown me the true kindness, selflessness and Christ-like love that is held by those who follow Him.

This Valentines, the men at BGU gave us a deeper look into the love of the Lord as they hosted a Valentine’s Day Dinner for the women in our community. They showed us that men who walk with the Lord…

Put Others Before Themselves

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” – Philippians 2:3

They showed humility, selflessness, and servant hearts. They were willing to put their sisters in Christ before themselves, showing the women in the community how valued they are.

Show Their Christ-Like Love

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” -John 13:34-35

They showed us their true and selfless Christ-like love. They managed the event, cooked, cleaned, and served. They sang, and recited poetry, showing us their authentic love and kindness through their actions. They might be tough and rough on the outside, but for valentine’s, they let us see that gushiness in their hearts.

Take On Servant Leadership

“It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant.” -Matthew 20:26

They displayed what real leadership looks like. As we have been learning in the BGU course Power of the Cross (POC), a good leader is not one who exalts himself, but one who leads as a ‘servant leader’. The BGU men took on leadership by managing this event and leading with servant hearts.

Step Into Humbleness

“But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” -James 4:6

Through Christ, God showed us how much He values humility. The men at BGU embraced full humble hearts for the evening, allowing the night to be devoted to appreciating their sisters in Christ.

Worship Through Work

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” -1 Corinthians 10:31

God calls us to bring glory to Him through whatever we do. Through the joy, love, and kindness, that the BGU men displayed as they served, we saw an example of worshipping the Lord through service.

Display What Walking with the Lord Looks Like

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” – Micah 6:8

The men in BGU know what a man who walks with the Lord looks like. They were and are willing to display this as best as they can. Through Valentine’s Day, we viewed a good example of this.

Put God first

“In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.” -Proverbs 3:6

The men at BGU know the importance of putting God in front of everything they do, and through servant hearts like the ones displayed over the Valentine’s Day Dinner, we can see how each of them searches to step into Christ’s character in any way they can.

I’d like to give a big thank you from all the BGU women to all the BGU men. Not only for the amazing Valentine’s Day Dinner, but for being the wonderful ambassadors of Christ that you all are. Thank you for the authentic, kind and selfless Christ-like love that you all show us each and every day. Happy Valentines Day to all of you and once again, thank you for everything!unnamed (1)
