Are You Wearing Wool? (False Prophets and Teachers)

The Kingdom of God is at hand and is coming soon. As a follower of Christ, I need to be watching and preparing for the Lord’s return. With that being said, I think I have been sitting back and just going about my daily task and not really thinking about the reality of Christ’s return. Here at BCOM there is a lot of talk about the second coming of Christ, and in that, watching and preparing for His return. I have been struck at the work of Satan in this time and have been truly saddened at the things he is doing in the lives of so many people around me. Satan is not playing around, he is out to kill, steal, and destroy us in whatever way he can. He is not going to say, “hey, here I am, I just want you to know that I am not for you but against you in every way. So I am going to trick you now.” No, Satan is going to do whatever he can to deceive you even if that means looking like a Christian and twisting the message of Christ for you to follow him. He has done it many times by giving half of the truth, but half of the truth is a lie. This is deception and Satan is good at it. In saying all this, I want to point out scripture that addresses the issue:

Matthew 7:15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.”

Matthew 24:11 “and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.”

2 Peter 2:1 “But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them–bringing swift destruction on themselves.”

1 John 4:1 “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

1 Peter 5:8 “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

Yes this is the reality! This is going on now. There are many people who are being deceived by the enemy and it is time for us as the Body of Christ to stand up and fight this spiritual fight. This is a battle and the enemy is not going to play fair. We as believers have something far greater than Satan, and that is the power and authority of Christ Himself. We have the victory, we just need to cling to it and walk in it. Yes, this is what we have, but believers don’t always take hold of this gift and they become deceived and destroyed by the enemy. So, as Ephesians 6:10-12 says, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

As I have been confronted with this information, I have also been challenged to know the Word of God and what it says, so that when false teachers are in my midst, I will know and be able to discern what is true. I will be able to do this because the Word of God will be written on my heart and no one will be able to deceive me. I also wanted to share some verses concerning this:

James 1:22-25 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it–he will be blessed in what he does.”

Matthew 7:25-27 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Psalms 1 “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.”

With all this being said, I have truly been challenged to watch, pray, know the Word of God, and share that the Kingdom of God is near. Be Ready.
