This commentary on the promo video for the new Consecrate internship was written by Tamsen Gylleck, a sophomore at BCOM intending on going to France with Bethany International:
What if our generation could be set apart for a higher purpose? There is an agenda that the world has for our generation-let’s not deny it! Just look at what MTV, Seventeen, Vogue and Hollywood have been pumping into our brains all these years. I, for one, am sick of it. I’ve found that buying the latest iPod, going to this week’s party, or even getting good grades and being well-liked just hasn’t cut it. There’s always more I’m longing for, the new-er iPod, a more crazy party, a better GPA or more friends on Facebook. What if what I’ve truly been longing for deep inside is an intimate relationship with the King of the Universe, the Creator of my soul, the Savior of my life and the Lover of my heart? Once upon a time about 2,000 years ago a man showed up in Israel who changed the face of the earth forever. He said that he had come was to give us life, life in abundance, life to the full. A little bit later he said, “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3). That guy was Jesus, a man who later died a gruesome death on a Roman torture/execution device just so that we could have a relationship with him and the Father.
God wants us to be set apart for a higher purpose, to know the Him in His fullness, Holiness, Glory and Love. He wants to be intimately connected with us in our everyday lives. You see, Jesus did his end, we just need to do our end. “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.” I for one, want to see what it would look like if our generation would find their life.
