I think that Mr. Cameron and Mr. Comfort did a pretty good job in this debate. I’d encourage you to watch all of it on youtube if you haven’t already. It’s quite fascinating.
An interesting passage to read after watching this video is Acts 17:5-7. The same thing that happened to the earlier believers seemed to have happened during this debate. While presenting the Gospel, those who oppose it will sometimes make a false accusation such as, “The god of the Bible wants us to stone homosexuals and oppress women!” or “The Bible teaches us to do whatever we want and then ask Jesus for forgiveness to make it all okay!” In Paul’s day they accused the earlier believers of wanting to destroy the temple or change the government. Don’t be scared. False accusations have always been thrown at us by those who hate the Truth. They think they are doing something new and ingenious by opposing Christianity, but history is simply repeating itself.
Watch the video. I’m not saying that those opposed to Christianity hate everyone, they just hate the Gospel. But whether they like it or not, the Gospel is advancing and reaching the unreached. Though the atheist or the agnostic may fume and fuss, kick and scream, curse and shout, the kingdom of God is coming in power.
When I first came to BCOM, I thought of it as a small missions school in the corner of this freezer drawer they call Minnesota. But throughout my time as a student I came to realize that Bethany is a globally active ministry. Not only that, but I realized that Bethany is part of a huge movement of the Gospel all around the world. Just recently we had a chapel service where Dan Brokke, the president of Bethany International, was telling us of the new missionary force coming from China, India and Korea. Soon, Americans will be the minority in the mission force.
So don’t be intimidated by those who oppose you, and don’t worry about ministries that seem to be “doing it wrong”. At times I hear a subtle rhythm of Christians criticizing ministries, but if God’s Kingdom cannot be stopped by those who vehemently hate it, what makes you think that it is going to be hampered by an awkward, clumsy, zealous believer who’s not doing things your way?
In the end, according to Christianity, evil is defeated and good wins. That’s how it goes in Star Wars, that’s how it goes in Sleeping Beauty, that’s how it goes in the Bible. Jesus rides in on a white horse, slays the devil and delivers his promised bride (us) from evil. All truth will be revealed and the lies destroyed. Though we are ridiculed in America, though we are disowned by families in the Middle East, though we are beaten and imprisoned on the other side of the world, our King and his Kingdom is coming with power, like a huge wave ready to crash into a tiny island.
Whether they like it or not, the Kingdom is one day closer.
