Travel the Road Missionaries on ABC Nightline and CNN

Written by BGU

Travel the Road is an awesome production by two daring young men who love the Lord. The reason behind the show: to create awareness of the reality of Matthew 9:37-38. “The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few…” With the ABC interview the guys faced a bit of opposition as their interviewer told them of the dangers of doing missionary work in remote people groups. The supposed danger is that a proselytizer will share Christianity and sequentially strip the people group of its culture. Tim answered that if you want to tie culture and religion together, then yes, that is a ‘danger’ of missionary work.

My take is that that’s what missionary work is all about: sharing the Gospel and hopefully turning the lost away from their lifeless idols and toward the Author of Life. If people want to say that religion is culture, then yes, missionary work is quite prejudice against all cultures but Christianity. But if culture is comprised of clothing, diet, lifestyle, expression, customs, and ethnicity, then missionary work does not change culture, instead, it conforms to it and adopts it.
